The hills of Williamson County have exploded with verdant greens, punctuated with neon redbuds and sparkling white dogwoods. It\u2019s time to get outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of skill level or time available, opportunities abound to hike, bike, paddle and explore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In downtown Franklin, there\u2019s plenty to see and do on foot, via a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/family-friendly\/pedego-franklin\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pedego<\/a>&nbsp;electric bicycle, or even astride a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iridefranklin.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Segway<\/a>.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/family-friendly\/franklin-walking-tours\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Franklin Walking Tours<\/a>&nbsp;also offers a host of group and private guide-led tours, from the historical to the supernatural. Or strike out on your own, with a self-guided tour from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/shopping\/visitor-center\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Visitor Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/api.coschedule.com\/apx\/dam\/da\/112891408\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Franklin\u2019s 18-park system includes preserved historic open spaces perfect for a nature stroll, all connected by a network of sidewalks and trails through the core of the city. From the northern gateway into downtown at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/sports-facilities\/the-park-at-harlinsdale-farm\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Park at Harlinsdale Farm<\/a>\u2014a renowned horse breeding operation before it was acquired for public use\u2014you can walk the pastures on a mown turf trail, past the historic barns and homes that comprised the 200-acre farm for decades. A four-acre dog park, fishing pond, and scenic overlook are among the highlights, and you may see horses on the trails or in the equestrian arena. Be sure to visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/shopping\/the-factory-at-franklin\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Factory at Franklin<\/a>, just across Franklin Road, for great food, drinks, and shopping.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/food-and-drink\/mojos-tacos\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mojo\u2019s Tacos<\/a>&nbsp;is a local favorite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for playgrounds and a paved walking trail, then&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/family-friendly\/pinkerton-park\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pinkerton Park<\/a>&nbsp;on Murfreesboro Road is a must-visit. A short hike over the bridge and up to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.franklintn.gov\/government\/departments-k-z\/parks\/park-locations\/fort-granger\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fort Granger<\/a>&nbsp;provides a fun and educational tour through the earthworks created by Federal troops during the Civil War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/api.coschedule.com\/apx\/dam\/da\/112891660\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.franklintn.gov\/government\/departments-k-z\/parks\/park-locations\/eastern-flank-battlefield-park\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eastern Flank Battlefield Park<\/a>, another expansive property saved from development to become a city park, sits on Lewisburg Pike. Here, interpretive signage along the trail through 110 acres dives deeper into Franklin\u2019s legacy. The Eastern Flank is adjacent to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/history\/carnton\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carnton<\/a>, historic cemeteries and gardens, and plenty to explore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting, too, that all three of these parks feature&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.franklintn.gov\/government\/departments-k-z\/parks\/parks-amenities\/canoe-access-sites\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">public canoe launches<\/a>. Even if you didn\u2019t bring a float, the scenic and shallow Harpeth River is a perfect place to splash around or go fishing, and these are easy access points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/api.coschedule.com\/apx\/dam\/da\/112890550\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, if you\u2019re looking to do some paddling, then&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/?s=Paddle+Dog\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paddle Dog<\/a>&nbsp;is the place to be. Located in the Westhaven neighborhood on New Highway 96, you can rent a canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddle board, get a gourmet hot dog, and spend a few hours soaking up the sunshine on the 13-acre lake. If you\u2019re hungry, visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/scoutspub.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scout\u2019s Pub<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coaltownpublichouse.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coal Town Public House<\/a>&nbsp;for casual dining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bonus: Being on the west side of Franklin means you\u2019re halfway to the iconic double-arch bridge of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/outdoor-adventures\/natchez-trace-parkway\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Natchez Trace Parkway<\/a>. Take the exit onto the Trace and you\u2019re at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/outdoor-adventures\/timberland-park\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Timberland Park<\/a>, with its three miles of forested trails, an interpretive center, a butterfly garden, and more. Then continue south down the scenic parkway to the quaint little village of Leiper\u2019s Fork exit and stop at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxandlocke.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fox &amp; Locke<\/a>&nbsp;for lunch or dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/api.coschedule.com\/apx\/dam\/da\/112891622\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If more adventure is what you\u2019re after, then consider renting an electric mountain bike at Franklin&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/franklinbikeshop.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bicycle Company<\/a>&nbsp;and hitting the groomed trails that have been established in Williamson County.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcparksandrec.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wilkins Branch Mountain Bike Park<\/a>, for instance, offers 13 trails\u2014beginner through advanced\u2014that wind through six miles and 167 acres of picturesque hills, and another several miles of dedicated dirt are currently being constructed within both the more urban&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.franklintn.gov\/government\/departments-k-z\/parks\/athletics-sports\/mountain-bike-trail-system\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cool Springs Mountain Bike Trail<\/a>&nbsp;in Franklin and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brentwoodtn.gov\/departments\/parks-recreation\/parks-trails-greenways\/marcella-vivrette-smith-park\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marcella Vivrette Smith Park<\/a>&nbsp;in Brentwood, a 400-acre historic homestead that also features six miles of hikes on four trails (easy to challenging), the ca. 1825 Ravenswood Mansion, a playground, picnic shelter, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/api.coschedule.com\/apx\/dam\/da\/112890756\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If there\u2019s still energy in the tank, head to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/visitfranklin.com\/family-friendly\/soar-adventure-tower\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SOAR Adventure Tower<\/a>, four levels of 110 climbing elements designed for family fun for kids and adults of all ages. The facility, located on Carothers Parkway just off I-65 in Franklin, offers mini golf as well and is easily located to get back to downtown Franklin in a breeze.
